Ba Sing Fix
Documenting the process of repainting an older fixie bicycle. Steps as follows:
Lightly sand the bike. I used combination of 200 and 300 grit sandpaper bought at a local hardware store.
Add a base paint. I used spray paint from a company called Spray.Bike, that developed a coating that I have found is much easier to use, and as a result, I can worry less about the consistency of the paint, or dripping or cracking. My base paint for this bike was gold.
Design my pattern. I created simplified icons with the theme of Earth Kingdom from the cartoon, Avatar: The Last Airbender. The sketches were drawn in Procreate on the iPad, cleaned up in Adobe Illustrator and exported to a Cricut machine to be cut into vinyl stickers.
Apply my vinyl stickers to the bicycle frame and fork. This will be the pattern of the bike in the gold base.
Add a coat of spray paint. Completely coat the bike in a forest green shade. Allow to dry.
Add another coat of spray paint. Since I wanted an ombre-fade kind of look, this coat was only painted on some parts of the bike. The resulting look is a green to black fade. Allow to dry.
Remove vinyl decals to reveal patterning.
Add a top coat. This top coat was a Keirin Rainbow Glitter paint. Once this coat was dry, the bike was able to be put back together.
